An ISP provides an Internet connection for a monthly fee. Typically, you receive a username, password, and an e-mail account. You access the ISP's server with a modem by dialing in over a phone line or using faster methods such as cable or digital subscriber lines (DSL).

A server is a computer located on the Internet 24 hours a day that stores your "Files" so that when other people access your site they will be able to view your web site. Without a server, you would have to be your own server and let people into your computer to see your pages (not to mention the extraordinary cost of running special connections to your computer). A good reliable server is essential for your website. If you intend to have people view your site, the server must be capable of handling all the requests in a timely manner. If a server goes "Down", people have no access and consequently, you stand the chance of losing business.

Every website on the internet has a server computer which acts as a "host". This host computer is connected to the internet 24 hours a day. It stores all of the webpage (html) files, graphics and any other items your site may contain so that your webpage and all its contents are available to be accessed by users worldwide at all times.

A domain name is a friendly Internet name address that provides an easy way for you to locate people, computers, and resources on the internet (i.e. yourcompany.com). A domain name is a part of a computer hierarchical numbering system that represent IP numbers. IP numbers or addresses are used by computers to find other computers on the Internet. For example, The IP address for yourcompany.com will look like this: 207.158.200.127
Each IP address has four sets of numbers separated by periods. IP addresses range from 4 to 12 digits. Each set of numbers range in value from 0 to 255. Since names are easier to remember than four sets of numbers, the domain name systems was devised.

While the total length of a domain name may be up to sixty-four (64) characters including the .com, the only characters allowed are letters, digits (numbers), and the dash (-). A domain name cannot, however, begin or end with a dash. The "www" which almost always comes before the domain name in a web-site address is not, in fact, part of the domain name. It has simply become a standard practice to write "www." in-front of a domain name. Domain names can be registered at any of the registrar services, however, you can also use our convenient script to register a name through Elehost. Elehost uses the ICANN accredited Tucows registrar.

The fee is subject to the type of package and support you require. Although pricing is usually contingent upon a pre-set package, these packages can be customized to suit your needs.
